Let's see how the fans feel about our new coaching situation and what this means for the future of Raider football.

i think he will be solid but he will not build a passing attack that will be needed to run with the big dogs.
We need someone strong enough to put in a passing attack and stick with it during the learning curve and convince the Jr High to follow suit. We will not be elite again until that happens.

then The Raiders passing attack will be a step down for them if we stay with the status quo.

Raider offense attempted to add the passing attack last year as they do every year. The problem was inconsistency from the QB position. Remember all the 7 on 7's?
Anyone else notice the QB did not read his progressions? I have seen the QB's in the recent past (under the same coaches) learn how to do this. Last year we didn't. I don't know if our QB wasn't allowed to or if he just wasn't able/ready. Last year, on each pass play called, it seemed there was a designated receiver.
The inability of our QB's to read and react to the defense is where we are getting beat by the Charlotte area teams.
Also remember, the offensive coaches know what are kids are capable of doing. Just because we want to see certain pass plays does not mean the QB & receivers are capable of running those plays.

they also know what the other team is capable of and what plays are too risky to run.

It's sad that you would make a thread about this. give the man a chance before you feed him to the lions. Richmond has never had to pass to win. Anyone who went to any of those state championship games knows that. The Raiders will prevail again.

coach em up. if they cant pass teach em, if they don't 'get it' find someone that does. This is a sad commmentary. It's lack of basic football knowledge in this statement is itself appalling and breathtaking. My advice is do not drink alcoholic beverages this early in the day. Perhaps there is a gas leak in your home and it is affecting you. Did someone turn the computer on for you? If you truely believe this, please do all of us a favor and root for someone else, because you are not a Raider fan, you are a State Championship fan

I really do want to believe Hoggard can get the job done. However, if he indeed was the primary play caller over the last few years, I don't expect it to happen. Run left, run right, run up the gut, and the quarterback keeper (which is one play I've always dispised) are not the plays that are going to return us to greatness. The Raiders did try a little passing last year, but it seemed each attempt was for 40+ yards. It wouldn't hurt to incorporate some quick slants or some short passes just to move the ball and get first downs, thus keeping the opposing defense on the field as long as possible. I'm not saying do away with the long pass, but use it wisely. Every pass attempt doesn't have to be the bomb. We need more balance in our attack so that we can make the thought process of the opposing defensive coordinator tougher. By being one dimensional, as the Raiders are, it allows the opposing defense to just key in on the run. While the run may work against some of the lesser talented teams on our schedule, it's not always smart to rely on it against a very talented team.
We also need to work on team discipline. All the false starts we get in a game should be unacceptable, yet it happens every week. The fans can yell at the refs all they want, but the fact is the Raiders "are" committing these penalties.
I'm not going to lie. I was one that hoped the Raiders would hire outside the program. My opinion was that we need some fresh blood to come in and try to return our program to the greatness that once existed. I am also one of the ones that voted "no" in this poll. However, Hoggard is there. He is the man in charge. The ones of us that doubt his ability have no other choice than to give him the benefit of the doubt and see what happens. I hope he surprises us all and comes out with a bigger playbook than the one page of plays we've been using over the last several years. It's time to wake up and step into the modern era of football and realize that smashmouth is not going to get the job done anymore. It may've worked ten, twenty years ago, but that was then. Teams in our modern era, unless you have the special talent like Rose, are opening up their offense and it creates greater success. I really hope the Raiders figure that out real soon.

When Knotts started this pass happy stuff did his kids come in knowing the patterns and having all the skills? No but he did it over and over until they got it and now he is where he is today. If coaching em up is a bad phrase in your book then it probably says more about you than me.
