the problem comes because we need to use all these games that are in fact 'cupcakes' and use them to learn how to pass. every year when we are running all over these teams and beating them by 30 and 40 points a game we could be using that as an opprotunity to improve ourself in the passing game.
we can improve and get back to the elite championship level one of two ways. 1. through more challenging opponents, and since our schedule is pretty much set that is not going to happen. or 2. through challenging ourself. use these cupcakes to learn how to pass and we will be ready come playoff time.

Basically non-scrimmage scrimmage games. I can understand that. However, throwing the ball when you are up 30 or 40 is kind of bad sportsmanship isn't it?

Here's an idea. Why not pass to get to that 30 or 40 point lead. OH wait, it's because you'd never get a 30 to 40 point lead passing.

they cant really practice those kinds of plays with a big led because the 2nd string is usually in the game.

thats what 7 on 7s and scrimmages are for. too bad you can't hold those during the middle of the season. would be cool if we could get with marlboro or anson after we played them, or some other team not too far away, and practice with them during the week.

I'm assuming Hoggard will continue being the OC as well as the HC.

I really do want to believe Hoggard can get the job done. However, if he indeed was the primary play caller over the last few years, I don't expect it to happen. Run left, run right, run up the gut, and the quarterback keeper (which is one play I've always dispised) are not the plays that are going to return us to greatness. The Raiders did try a little passing last year, but it seemed each attempt was for 40+ yards. It wouldn't hurt to incorporate some quick slants or some short passes just to move the ball and get first downs, thus keeping the opposing defense on the field as long as possible. I'm not saying do away with the long pass, but use it wisely. Every pass attempt doesn't have to be the bomb. We need more balance in our attack so that we can make the thought process of the opposing defensive coordinator tougher. By being one dimensional, as the Raiders are, it allows the opposing defense to just key in on the run. While the run may work against some of the lesser talented teams on our schedule, it's not always smart to rely on it against a very talented team. We also need to work on team discipline. All the false starts we get in a game should be unacceptable, yet it happens every week. The fans can yell at the refs all they want, but the fact is the Raiders "are" committing these penalties. I'm not going to lie. I was one that hoped the Raiders would hire outside the program. My opinion was that we need some fresh blood to come in and try to return our program to the greatness that once existed. I am also one of the ones that voted "no" in this poll. However, Hoggard is there. He is the man in charge. The ones of us that doubt his ability have no other choice than to give him the benefit of the doubt and see what happens. I hope he surprises us all and comes out with a bigger playbook than the one page of plays we've been using over the last several years. It's time to wake up and step into the modern era of football and realize that smashmouth is not going to get the job done anymore. It may've worked ten, twenty years ago, but that was then. Teams in our modern era, unless you have the special talent like Rose, are opening up their offense and it creates greater success. I really hope the Raiders figure that out real soon. Exactly.

I'm assuming Hoggard will continue being the OC as well as the HC. If he is then Richmond will never get past the 2nd round

Like I said before, don't give up on them before they even start.

i don't think anyone is giving up on them. However there was a time when everyone knew that when the chips were down we would and could do whatever it took to win.
Now somtimes you get a since that players, coaches and fans don't believe like they use to believe.
Somthing is going to have to happen to change that. I don't know what 'it' is but we will know it when we see it.

Some of the fans suprise me. I wonder, do you want them to fail to prove you right? or do you just want some of the credit if for some unrelated reason, they play the way that you want them to, and they succeed? I just can't see any other reason a TRUE fan would continuously put down his/her own team and coaches.
