Okay all the Raider fans,
What will it take for the Richmond Raiders to push for a championship run in the playoffs? Does Richmond really have a chance or is it a pipe dream? I would like to hear everyones thougths on how it may or may not happen. Is 2008 going to be the 7th Championship for the Raiders?

Pipe dream would be referring to a dream that isn't realistic.

Based on how the Raiders are playing now. If they play really strong in the playoffs can they knock off some big teams. What are the Raiders downfall this year. What are they lacking?

A true game breaker (Rabbit, Marcus E, Flip, Mike Thomas, Oscar Sturgis, Mike Quick, Donnie Legrand) that's what we are missing. Who on the current team can break off 80 yard run without getting caught? If someone on the current team can answer that question we will go deep in the playoffs.... Our defense has been their year after year....

Don't forget Stormin Norman! A true game breaker, that is a good point. I can't answer that question because I haven't been to a game this year. Of course I moved away 3 years ago and only been to a hand full of games. I've been keeping up, and yes I've noticed we are missing a true game breaker. No pressure this year, like years in the past when Richmond had loads of talent and were expected to bring home the championship. The past few years Richmond has been the underdog, which could play to Richmonds favor this year. Really does Richmond need a game breaker? A good question. Maybe a player will come through and make the needed push to help Richmond gain that swagger back. Does Richmond have the talent? Yes. Does Richmond have the desire? That is the question! It has been ten years sense Richmond brought home the trophy. It is time for a change, so lets get behind the boys and get those blenchers filled up with fans. As fans lets do our part, and maybe that will be the encourgement the players need to push for a championship. Walter Ellerbe? Could he be a star in the making and that needed game breaker that Richmond is looking for???

Norman did not win a ring but he left with all the records.... Walter might be but I would not put that type of pressure on a kid....

Your right Norman or Jamar didn't win a ring but they were game breakers. Maybe someone will shine in the playoffs. Its a off year, but doesn't mean that Richmond will automaticly lose either. If they play within there self, and make good smart plays then I believe they might just surprize some teams in the playoffs. They must excute every single play when given the chance to score.
Walter?? So no one is saying, "look at little flip" he is going to be like his dad??? Given the pressure or not, I'm sure he is aware of the pressure and what is father did as a player and what impact he made. I'm sure its alot of shoes to fill, but from the videos I seen, the kid has got the talent and could be the next game breaker in years to come.

This team has a lot of talent, but you are correct that they have no superstars. Wiley is a star in the making but he needs to be allowed to do the things he does best. He is a natural leader and is being handcuffed a little bit in passing game. The weakness may be our coaches inability to make adjustments DURING the game. Can we make the adjustments needed when we play teams with a constant passing attack? That is the most glaring weakness that this team has.

(Wiley is a star in the making but)
Wiley needed to be running the spread option with some stretch plays mixed in, 30 to 40 run plays, 10 to 15 pass plays. Wiley would have been looking like Pat White at WVU.

We have a lot of talent on defense, but no depth. We have at least one talented athlete at each position and then the number 2 guy is a true second stringer.

Richmond's achilles heel is their offensive and defensive lines. The offensive line is the weakest in memory and unfortunately has failed to progress as the season has gone on as many lines have in the past. Defensive line is inconsistent and you never know how they'll play. No championship this year, out in the second round at the latest.

The passing game as always been the main problem. If you look at over the past ten years, Richmond has had some QB's that had cannons but the playbook did not call for those types of plays. Richmond needs to start playing 20 passing plays a game if they have the QB, WR and TE. In the playoffs you need a passing attack because they are expecting the Raiders to march up and down the field with their so faithful running attack. Richmond needs a new playbook, I beleive its worn out and been used to much. Need a new approach of coaching and new fresh plays that will use the players to their full potiential. The talent is their, but its how you use the talent.
