I don't really see the big deal. people that want to see the girls can still see the girls. The ones that want to see the boys can still see the boys. whats the big fuss about?

Well, I must admit, I don't really attend very many basketball games. However, it looks to me like the Varsity girls' teams are worried that they won't get the boys' fans showing up early for their games. I must admit that the few games I have gone to, there were very few fans at the girls' game to begin with. The boys' fans always ended up showing up with about 3 minutes left in the girls' game and if the game was close, the fans would cheer them on the last couple of minutes. BIG DEAL! I do not see how the girls are going to be negatively affected by this.

i agree. i don't see the problem. i think it is more offensive that all the people who are against the idea are basically saying that the girls need the boys.

This is ridiculous. It's two games at two sites. The same as before. If this is a true argument, then the same can be said about the baseball and softball playoffs going on right now. Baseball and Softball conflict all the time. The JV teams play at the same time. Now in the playoffs, for Richmond, the baseball and softball teams are playing at opposite sites on the same day.
Basketball is really the only sport played by both sexes that share a season. Tennis, Golf, and Soccer all split the seasons. On gender in the fall and one in the spring. Cross County and Track are not really an issue because they share a location and both can be viewed by everyone. Since some sports split seasons and others split times, why not have basketball split days. Just don't play boys and girls on the same day.

the blog mentions cheerleaders. what do they do about them?

I would assume that the JV cheerleaders would be sent to one game and the varsity cheerleaders to the other. This would save sending three buses to away games as was done in the past.

well, just like the promotion from JV to Varsity, why not just send the jv to girls and the varsity to boys. it's still like a promotion.

I have to agree with some of the other posters. I think this is just getting blown waaaaaay out of proportion.

The only one with the real problem is the sports staff for the Observer. The girls will be fine and the fans will show up.

some girls teams will be fine. Fayetteville has several decent girls teams. other schools do not, but i don't see too many more going to the girls games even if they are played with the guys games.

in a lot of cases, schools are close by. why not flop the times every once in a while. At the boys site have varsity play first and at the girls site have varsity play second and vice versa. that way byrd, 71st, westover, and britt fans can go to both varsiry or both jv. or at least most of both of them. Also would work for richmond and scotland.
